Gooood show. I'm verrry sore. Highlights: - meeting everyone! bout freakin time. i was introduced to like 15 people at one time so im still kinda blurry on whos who but thank you ray davies for helping me out with that. the only one i actually got to talk to was carligula, and that was nice.. got the scoop on a couple members. - rollum: almost getting his head stuck in the tamboruine, having to sneeze before walk you home, noticing that the ciggerate he had previously flicked was still lit and taking a few drags - all the rarieties! yayyy they played the damage is done! and harold! alright its getting long but good show.. cant wait til friday!

A superb show. Right now I am reliving the joy of "The Way It's Meant To Be" on my TV. Beautiful. This was the most laid back Features experience I have ever had. I actually had plenty of room the whole time. And thanks to Matt for playing "Damage Is Done." Woo hoo!

Can I actually be forward enough to say I didn't like the change to Harold? Some of the other changes, subtle or fairly significant, like the new "middle musical part" Situation Gone Bad worked well, and The Beginning rocks even more than ever (if that's possible), but they fucked with Harold. Or maybe not fucked, but they messed with it just enough to really jar me. Maybe in time I'll accept it. Maybe.

Yes very good. I think I saw you, Rachel, but I didn't get a chance to say hi.
The set list tonight didn't flow like it usually does. Usually I can guess what song they are going to play next before they play it. Tonight I only got like three right.
However, it was still great. All is right with the world when Matt Pelham is singing rock songs about babies.

"Harder to Ignore" is the title I believe, JC.

And I think I'm mixing up Idea of Growing Old with Harold. I couldn't remember which one bothered me the most now, perhaps it's the former. I don't know... anyway good show overall. Harder to Ignore has one of the best choruses from these guys in a while.

can't do the multi-quote so:
digsy, i reaaally wanted the damage is done but i was getting all intimidated because everyone else wanted serious but then you started yelling for it so i started yelling for it and yay.. they played it.

and yayy for stagecoach. i didnt even have to yell for that one.

im not familar enough with harold to notice the changes but i really liked it tonite.

i didn't notice a change on the idea of growing old either. maybe im just really unobservant.

i really like the new song.

well, I must say that this was one of the best shows I've ever been to. The sound quality was 10x better than i've ever heard live. Being outside was incredible as well- really getting my hopes up for a dancin in the district performance. I did, however, agree with the guy that kept yelling "more keyboard." The idea of growing old was awesome and I really think it has the potential to be their 1st single, but thats the case with many of their songs. very dissapointed not to hear demons, hey lou, and serious. But I guess you can't hear every song all in one night.

I think I saw you rachel... But there was no way I was gonna call you out and it be someone else biggrin.gif Were you the one with the sleevless red shirt on??? Anyway, I changed plans and ditched the Titans jersey and wore a blue button-up shirt w/ shorts and stood on a chair in the very back.

ohh yea, IBL- not too crazy bout them at first, but their last few songs I really really liked.

I've rarely out and out requested a recording of a show, but I'd love if someone that might have a recording of this show to PM or email me and see if they could hook me up with a Features show trade or B&P or something. An amazing looking setlist with new versions of two of my all time favorites? New songs, and other that I've never heard? Stagecoach? This sounds like JUST the kind of show I wanted to happen right now, and gives interesting insight into what might be heading into the studio?

Has the mb played any part in the revival of Harold? Is jamie responsible?

alright, i had waited all week for this show, and the time finally came for the spectacular line-up of IBL/The Features.....

ok, first Imaginary Baseball League........this band just keeps getting better each time i see them. they were full of energy and they rocked out more than usual tonight. songs like "nuclear winter" and "patternize" just blow me away.....i would also like to thank aaron from the band for plugging my radio show (10pm to Midnight on Wednesdays, 88.3 just in case you were wondering wink.gif ). he's such a great guy and it was extremely nice for him to do it. it was very unexpected..... IBL= a fucking amazing band.

now to The Features......two words: fucking awesome.

I love this band. I wish nothing but the best for them in the future. The show was fantastic. I loved "the damage is done" and "harold" (two songs that need to be played more). I love seeing this band. They just make me so happy. I also loved it when rollum played the bassline to "she's lost control" after the show......it was very pleased. overall, it was yet again another amazing show.....i cant wait until friday.....it will be another great show....oh yes, it will be another great show......

"He does this every Friday"....

Oh my goodness, the show was spectacular tonight. Imaginary Baseball League is my favorite opener, and I do enjoy them more each time I see them.

The Features make me happier than words can say...they're wonderful. I was so so happy to hear "Damage is Done" and "Oh My Love"...it's been so long. I'm still amazed that they actually played "Damage is Done" after I've been wanting them to do so for what seems like forever. Outside was a little weird at first, but I loved it nonetheless. I think the only thing that could have made this show better for me was if "Armani Suede" was played. But, there's always next time, I suppose. I can't think of anything more to say about tonight other than how beautiful and filled with Features goodness it was. Just the right thing to get my mind off of accounting class.

Now, this week needs to hurry up and fly by so that it will be that time, once again, for more Features goodness.

Well, I wasn't there. Oh well.

I've said this before, and it is only conjecture, but I usually look to the sets they're playing just before and after a studio session to determine what is most likely to be recorded. It could be a glimpse, or it may not. Next week, if there were a show somewhere, would be one that I'd watch especially close.

If you are talking about the changes on "The Idea of Growing Old," Brian, then I agree with you. I thought the song was perfect the way it was, but it seemed to be lacking in keyboards last night. I don't know if it was a problem with the sound or if it was an actual change, but I hope I either get used to it or go back to the old way.

Stagecoach? Damage is Done AND Harold? I'm so sad to have missed such a set list. It seems that the end of April shows are always amazing. I'd also be interested in a B&P.

i dunno, but i asked matt beforehand if they were going to play it and he said that they were, because they hadn't been happy with it but that they had reworked some of it. he said that they'd been practicing it a lot and so he wanted to see how it sounded.
by the way, it's the cutest thing in the world when matt forgets some words and just moves his mouth to get through that part of that song while rolling his eyes... rolleyes.gif

I actually liked the changes to "The Idea of Growing Old." (Side note: Before the song, Matt ended our debate by saying, "This song is called 'The Idea of Growing Old.'") I was standing right in front of Parrish, cleverly disguised as a patio umbrella, so I could really hear the new keyboard parts. I think they sound great! He plays some staccato chords during the verse that I thought revitalized an aging song.

YaDaDaDa, during the first part of the show I thought, "Wow! I'm listening to the new Features album a year early!" If this summer's recording session is released as an album, I think it will basically include all of the songs played before "Darkroom." (If you added "Bring on the Night" and "There's a 1,000,000 Ways to Sing the Blues," I think you'd have it.)

Nice show. Nice atmosphere. I liked having the band play along the long side of the patio instead of the short end; it provided such much room for the front row that not even the message board blockade could take it all. I was glad to see lawnwrangler made it in for this one. Highlight of the evening: The beating that Sina almost got by that dude from Character whose name I can never remember.

i really enjoyed the show, drunken belligerence aside. i got a little beer bath up front, but i kindly relocated the guilty party's beverage to a safer place. IBL was good, as usual. i've yet to find a weakness in their set, which puts them up there on my list of loal bands. "the new AM" really caught my ear last night. as far as the features go, it was nice to hear "harold", and i'm always game for a little "stagecoach". i could have gone for some temporary blues, but you can't win'em all.

yes, that was indeed hilarious.

I thought IBL was amazing. I find their effects pedal rig very interesting to watch while the band is playing. smile.gif

I thought the show was great. They played a lot of my favorites (someway, somehow; harold; look out below; etc). I really liked the Joy Division teaser Rollum did after the set. Plus, what made the show even better is the fact I havent seen practically any of their shows in the past six months. I was happy. Sadly enough, though, there's a 99.9% chance I wont be at Friday's show. :sigh:
As it is one of my favorites, I asked Roger if there was any remote possibility of "Dont Lie to Me" being played before the show and he said that there wasnt... but it's one of his favorites and he's been pressin' to get them to play/practice it more often. One can only hope..

I thought the show was amazing. There was such a pleasant atmosphere last night. It was great to hear "Harold" and what I thought to be the first few notes to "Attention". I think Parrish was messing with my mind. I'm really sorry that I didn't get to hear "Serious", but I realized how much I missed "The Damage is Done". It was nice to meet and see everyone (Rachel, DS257, Misguided Fool, and Genius Girl (watch out... I hear she has a black belt)). Can't wait for Friday!

And Yadadada, HSS and I yelled for Your Smile but go a look from Matt that suggested that it will never happen. It makes me sad. sad.gif

I enjoyed the show as usual!!! I was stunned when I heard the features start playign Harold... I had just said man I wish they could play Harold and then it started up! biggrin.gif That was just one of the best features shows I've ever been to. An I liked it so much more outside to.

Tom Foolery I think I may have been like right next to you or something I was all into the show right in front of Parrish and I kept hearing comments about Parrish's playing and I saw hand gestures out of the corner of my eye. But i was just deep into the show lol.

Oh an I finally got to see another show on Parrish's side. I always end up standing right in front of Roger. Which isn't a bad thing at all lol. But I just didn't wanna feel like a Roger stalker, seemed like if i stood in front of him one more show, I would be obligated to make a sign for the next show saying "GO Roger!!! or Roger kicks so much Ass I stand in front of him every Show!!!"

You're right, it does take time to accept changes, especially when they're more than an added keyboard or drum part. It also didn't help that I was pretty much limited to the Roger side of the mix and some of his bass changes stuck out all the more on Growing Old, thus it felt even more drastic of a change than if I were standing in the middle or to Parrish's side.

Speaking of drums, looks like Rollum's added a lot to the songs and he seems even more aggressive of a drummer than ever.

another amazing show. i won't be long-winded...i loved everything about it. iwe, maybe matt gave us that "you must be crazy if you think we're going to play that" smile when we requested "your smile" because he knows that they secretly plan on playing it on friday night instead, when YDDD can be there to enjoy it as well. i hope all of my 16 pictures come out well.

it was nice finally meeting smee, rachel, and ds257...sorry none of you got more than a "nice to meet you" from me...i wasn't feeling the best.

and was the features' merchandise table out last night and i just missed it? i desperately needed to buy some birthday presents but there was no table to be found.

Mighty good show. I was quite surprised to hear a few of the rairities (i.e. Stagecoach) considering that I was told not to expect too many surprises. I know that their primary goal was to switch up a few songs that they intend to record, but I'm left wondering if we will be getting a new recording of Darkroom and Oh My Love when they go into the studio in the next few weeks. I'll echo all the positive statements regarding Harold. I do believe that us messageboarders actually played a role in getting that one back in the rotation. Considereing all the re-working of the song, I would only guess that it has a good shot of making it to the album.

It was a real pleasure meeting Rachel last night (despite the severe feelings of being old), as well as Deathscythe and Damon (although I wish it had been under better circumstances). I was glad to see that Sina didn't stir up too much trouble (or at least focussed her efforts on a few tougher individuals). All in all, great set, perfect weather, and cool vibe. I'll bet next week will be even better. (Not that there's going to be a Features show or anything next week.)

a little off subject but last night i noticed that the range of dialects just within 30 miles is amazing. i always thought i had a very southern accent but several people i heard's accents were 10x thicker. i just figured mboro and nashville would be pretty similar but guess not. when im nervous or trying to get something from someone i talk really southern. anyone else do that?

it was one of the best shows i've ever seen (besides getting bathed in beer). i hope i get to come to the one on friday, but i might have to work sadly. i've heard about last year's may 2nd show and how great it was. anyways, i didn't really get a chance to meet many people from the message boards....maybe next time. i was very suprised to hear "harold." i've never heard that song before and was very impressed. i'd have to say i enjoyed the show last night. biggrin.gif

You were there? You must've really been disguised, because I was looking for you and didn't see you there.

Shouldn't it be at this point that someone comes on or joins the board just to stir up some kind of argument? It seems like that's happened a lot with the show reviews.

Come on! We need somebody's girlfriend or a Red Rose employee or someone claiming we build a blockade to come and get fiery with us.

as well as Deathscythe and Damon (although I wish it had been under better circumstances).
I was glad to meet you on any circumstances. It honestly didn't bother me too much, but had I tripped and pulled out a power supply... well, i just didn't want to do that. plus, there were a couple ladies of the shorter stature standing next to me and I hate to bump into them and cause a ruckus. but oh well, I still had a great time at the show. smile.gif

Yes, it was a great set list. Yes, the band played great. YES, Rollum was beating the shit out of his drums! But surely someone here will mention how crappy that PA sounded. I had a good time and enjoyed the show, but I will easily say that it was the worst sounding Features show I've ever been to. It did get better when I moved to the far end of the deck, but I had to enjoy many of the songs with my imagination, pretending to hear other things that I knew were going on musically. Nice to see those I saw. Wish I could be there Friday.

My whole reason in not going to this show was that I was afraid it would ruin my Monday. Well, I had a shitty Monday anyway and now I'm really disappointed that I missed this show. Sounds like it was a winner.

Oh well, I guess it's all the more reason to look forward to Friday, right? God, I can't wait.

Yes, it was played for the first time at the last Red Rose show in February, I believe.

its funny you say that b/c i thought the complete opposite (or the complete opposite of what i think you meant). as far as clarity goes, i thought this show sounded much better than any i've been at recently. as far as hearing the different sounds, like the KEYBOARD for instance, it was very difficult to hear several instruments on a number of occasions.

Not sure if my position had anything to with either of my observations, but i was standing on a chair in the very back.

i agree with you... i thought it sounded alright, because they CAN'T sound bad, but it sounded kinda mediocre. i was over on the side with meeks and libby and some others, but i didn't think it sounded good at all. it could've been that i was somewhat parallel with the speakers but i could hardly hear matt singing at all. i'm sure it sounded better in front of them, but i will always like the way they sound inside better than outside i guess....

yea,,, there must be "pockets of sound" (for lack of a better word) in outdoor concerts or something b/c the vocals are mainly what i thought sounded so clear..lol. I'm prolly the least educated person about sound on the board, but maybe since there were no walls to bounce all the sounds around, our positions only let us hear certain sounds? Does anyone know if they are on different speakers or if they all are "mixed" into a sound board and shot out together through the same speakers? If they do indeed each have seperate speakers, what would be the logic in this? I mean, wouldn't blending all the sounds together ensure everyone heard the same thing? Hope this made sense...

There's a little bit of all of that, Joey. I'll let the true audiophiles and RIM people tackle the details for you. Separating sounds into different speakers creates stereo, which is much more dynamic than mono. Lots of neat things can be done with a soundboard and effects rack that I can't come close to understanding, much less explaining.

Ok, first post, second show, and I must say I was blown away.

IBL is now one my new favorite bands. A Lot To Say is my new favorite song of all time, hands down, bar none. Not to mention the rest of their set which was fantastic as well.

I was very excited to see a larger set by the Features, considering my first show (at Art's Place here in Lexington a few weeks ago) was a bit short. I was not disappointed in the least bit. It was definately the type of rock show I've been waiting to go, since I started going to rock shows.

I won't claim to the largest fan in the world, considering I've only been a listener for a short while now, so I can safely say from my level everything sounded wonderful. They may not be out to be the saviors of rock and roll, but they have certainly put a new light on it for this guy.

Welcome to the board, first and foremost.
Secondly, let your fandom kick in. Go to a couple more shows (such as the one this Friday), and let them really sink in. I absolutely loved them after my first show. After my second, I found anything that I could by them until I got to see another show.
Trust me...Before you know it, you will be checking this board 15 times in one day, and praying for another show to come around. Honestly, it's heavenly.

I liked the show, but I'll have to agree with the others, the sound in the back sucked. I was in the way way back and everything was muddy except for the vocals. I think the reason was b/c the vocals were on the monitors that were placed about 5 feet in the air, the rest of the instrumentation came straight from amplifiers on the ground I believe. And the masses of people standing in the front were blocking the direct sound. I was getting more a muffled reverb sound in the back. I'm sure the show rocked if u were front and center though. Anyway, Thats about all I have to say,

SlackerTodd, I have a love/hate relationship with your avatar. It makes me want a cigarette, which is fine now, but I plan to quit on May 31st. If you continue to post here (which I hope you do), please change it in a month!

If not, maybe I'll just concentrate on the times I've lit the filter and how awful and depressing it was and just let that soothe me when I'm a nonsmoker.

Todd, were you in Roger's area? If so, I might've been generally next to you. I was the tall guy next to the speaker.

he wasnt....he was more in the parrish area.....

I love how we now position ourselves at Features shows similar to the parking lot at Disney World.

"Where did we park?"
"We're in Rory 133"

"Where will we stand?"
"The Parrish area"

I guess that poor Rollum is the Pluto of the Features: he doesn't get an area unless you're backstage.

token, i'm right there with you.

and todd was the one with the longer curlier hair, thinner body frame and cigarettes.
Sounds like the guy who was right next to me.
you were standing pretty close to todd, as i recall. i remember deathscythe or ray davies asking if you were rachel1808 (and apparently 1808 isn't your last name), which you were. ohmy.gif
Hmm.. were you and deathscythe somewhat behind me? Or did I move in front of one of yall and ask if I was short enough? Because I think I was next to Todd and I remember two guys behind me.. sorry still trying to piece it all together.

and Good, Allen. I'm glad I got the crazy effect across. It was what I was going for.

wait, who i thought was rachel was standing more in the rollum area about 3 rows back...near iwe, ray, sadie, and myself. if not, then i've completely misidentified rachel. all this is so confusing. now that i think about it, did i even see the features sunday night?

Holy cow. I guess you could say I was right in front of a table, if you didn't count the 10 people between me and the table. I was near HSS, IWE, and gang in Rollum-ish area. I was right next to a curly headed tall skinny guy. There were two guys behind me that I saw Carl chatting with and after reading this post I assumed they were Damon and DeathScythe. Either I was wrong or they thought someone else was me. Which is kinda weird because I didn't see any other youngsters there.

And TF, I'd rather not be on your skank-cam, thanks.

rachel 1808 was behind us for a while. as i recall, ray davies turned around and said "are you...", to which she answered "uh huh". this also confirms your previous theory that she was the young girl sitting behind us on the table outside pre-show. no need for confusion.

Ray davies approached me about 15-20 minutes before IBL went on. Then I went and sat down right after for a minute or two. Once the bands started I was never sitting. The whole point of this was I remembered two boys behind me during the Features set and thought they were you and DS. Guess not.

I'm very excited about seeing the Features, and also excited about seeing IBL again. The last time I saw them was without the Features and I was able to enjoy them in their own right. They are very good and I'm looking forward to seeing them.

By the way, Year of the Rabbit will be the headliner (I believe). All I know is a member or two was/were (a) former member(s) of Failure. It sucks to think of the Features as a non-headliner, but this could still be an amazingly good show.

Sorry about being so cryptic earlier. I just didn't want to beat anyone to the punch with a blatant announcement. Last I heard, they were still waiting on a confirmation. Normally, I wouldn't have posted anything, but our beloved BrianW is busy and laid-up, so I thought I'd get the info out there so everyone can plan ahead-- it's only 2 weeks away!

For the record, I love IBL.

Yeah, Ken Andrews. The drummer is from Shiner. The guitarist is from National Skyline. I don't know who the bass player is.

Their shows have been so short lately that I don't mind: it'll be the same number of songs either way. It also makes it easier for me to be there. And I can sleep at home in bed instead of in a chair during IBL.

Actually, that's his schtick. It doesn't seem to have much to do with how awesome the opening band is (which by the way, IBL definitely is), that dude just loves to sleep before the Features.

yayy a show. i cant belive they arent headlining.
I can, since Year of the Rabbit is on a national tour, have a fairly good sized national following, and are signed to a major label.

What I can't believe is that The Features are actually playing this show. I think if any local band would fit as an opener, it would be Celebrity.

And I can sleep at home in bed instead of in a chair during IBL.
Man, that's a little rude. They aren't that bad. As a matter of taste, they aren't bad at all.
Sorry, I was being a little naughty. I haven't napped during an opener in well over a year now. And true, they're not that bad...just not my thing.

I have a question about the show on the 13th. on the Exit/In site it says that Year of the Rabbit will be playing with Lucky Guns and IBL. but on the IBL web site it say that IBL will be playing with Year of the Rabbit and The Features. and on the features web site it say currently no dates, are the features really playing or is it just a typo?

Oh, I'm sure it will fall through. I got excited for a while there, but now I've decided not to get my hopes up...when I do that, somebody always breaks a bone or something...and I wouldn't want a Feature to be in that situation.

I'm afraid there's a chance we won't be seeing the Features at this show, which is exactly why I was so vague about it in the first place. I spoke with BrianW today (who, by the way, is recovering nicely) and he has yet to get the official word. I assume Daigle and Meeks have acquired the spot and are deciding/have decided which of the bands they manage will be getting the gig.

I left a message with the all-holy Daigle and I'm awaiting the word from him.

How much is this nice PR gonna cost me, Carl? I'm all about costs these days, since I'm finding out how much one of those water jugs cost you when you're in the hospital. You'd be surprised.

Oh yeah, an ER doc who spends all of five minutes with you gets $225. Amazing, ain't it?

i have an idea, we can take all the concerts i was planning to go to this month and throw them out the window. this is absolute, pure crap and it goes right along w/the day i've had...

first off, why would exit/in choose ANY of those bands over the Features, (yes, i know year of the rabbit has been "explained") and secondly, is this the only chance we have at a show this month or could there be more?

by the way, never take your car to alexander ford in mboro, they will screw you over until you have an empty wallet and a broken down car.

I don't think Exit/In chose somebody over the Features. I get the idea the Features decided not to play this show. The Lucky Guns are playing and it's a big break for them.

I just got the bootleg DVD of the Red Rose show. This was the last Features show I saw before moving back to Richmond, VA. Great job whoever taped it.. It was pretty awesome getting to see this again.

Thanks for the compliments. It really was a good show to tape since it has such a wide variety of songs (11/12 album tracks, the full length debut of Harder to Ignore, and rarities like Harold, Damage is Done, and Stagecoach).
