Holy Shit!

This was such a great show. How could it not be with the great lineup of Imaginary Baseball League, The Lucky Guns, and The Features.

First off....all the over-18 people managed to get in which was a very cool thing for Bingham to do....kudos to Bingham for allowing us to partake in this great show and support a good cause

Now the bands:

Imaginary Baseball League......this band continues to amaze me. they were especially good last night. they played a few songs off their upcoming new release, which i am very much looking forward to. Overall, a stellar performance from an exceptional band.

The Lucky Guns.......well......in my opinion, the next place the lucky guns should play is a strip club judging from most of the female crowd reaction to their songs.....i enjoyed the first 6 songs that they played, but after that their songs all started to sound the same, which is very boring and sad....they have so much energy, but their songwriting is quite monotonous

The Features......they were very very very good last night. tons of energy...they played for almost 90 minutes and had an amazing set.....i dont really remember the order of the set list but i do remember a few of the songs during the set, but i do remember the encore:

Circus
There's a million way to sing the blues
The way it's meant to be (during which i had to hold Roger's tamborine to make sure that he could get to it easily....very fun)
Walk You Home
Me and the Skirts
See You Through
Temporary Blues (with the new arrangement.....very rocking)
The beginning
Thursday....these are the ones that i remember.....i know they played more...perhaps richardawson will post the entire set list since he did tape the show....

Amazing show....I cannot wait until Thursday at the exit-in......

Great review, I agree 100%. I don't remember them singing circus b/c I was waiting for it all night. I came straight from the emergency room so maybe I was still a little out of it and just missed it?

I too really liked the Lucy Guns' first few songs, but then I just got really tired of it (the music and the beer getting sprayed all over me)

The Features completely rocked!!! This was only my 2nd show, but it was 10x better than the one at the Boro a few weeks ago. Nice to hear them sing psycho killer live... Loved it! Overall it was a great time, I hope they made enough $$$ to keep the red rose open, don't know if I really wanna go to the Boro again.

circus was the first song that they played.....

and judging from the amount of people who were there, i should hope that they made enough money to keep it open....it IS the only cool and interesting place in murfreesboro......

I thought the show was absolutely amazing last night. Bingham's home had very good acoustics, or at least compared to the boro it did, and a little change in atmosphere is always nice.

IBL: very nice
Lucky Guns: mixed feelings...I second what Ray Davies has said.
The Features: do I even have to say? Well...two words...super duper.

I would just like to thank Mr. Bingham for allowing us to try and help save the best place in Murfreesboro to get great coffee, food, and conversation...and for the great musical event that took place last night.

Oh, and to Joeywade... I'm sorry, you must have missed Circus. It was the first song. That's a shame...

I'm pretty sure that's it. It was an awesome show. I was really tired and I hadn't eaten in 12 hours, so I wasn't pumped full of energy like usual, but I still loved the show. Imaginary Baseball League and the Lucky Guns provided some of the best and most entertaining opening act performances that I've ever seen. I was also glad to see the crazy moshing limited to the Lucky Guns set (which is totally understandable for that band, the lead singer embodies Andrew W.K.). Very good show, I'm sure it'll be even better on Thursday.

yes the show was amazing. a wonderful time for all. i quite enjoyed IBL. i'm definitely going to pick up their album when released. the lucky guns were amazing for their first 3 or 4 songs, then the songs seemed to blend together and lose quality. the features, well, wow. i cannot state how much i love "that's the way it's meant to be." all the new songs were played and were wonderful. the reworking of "temporary blues" was pleasing to my ears. although i do miss parts of the old version, i was excited to hear one of my favorite never-played features songs morphed into it (i won't ruin the surprise for those who'll hear it on the 6th). overall an amazing show. thanks to bingham for everything. i hope enough money was gathered and the night was a financial success.

This was my favorite show for innumerable reasons. A few include...great random place for a show, damn good bands, the weekend concert options were looking bleak until Thursday, and the atmosphere was so happy and lacking in drama (Boro). Truly the way it's meant to be (sorry, had to). Did anyone else notice a drumbeat at the end of "Thursday" that seemed to be the same one in "Atrocity Exhibition" from Joy Division's "Closer" album? Maybe it was just me. Anyway, this was a great show and i'd like to be the first to say "up yours" to the people on this site that tried to convince people that they should not attend this fundraiser. It was lots of fun.

well.....rollum is a joy division fan, so i wouldnt be suprised if there are traces of stephen morris in his drumming style...i mean he did just randomly start playing she's lost control after someone yelled for it at the last boro show....but what do i know about drumming anyways....all i know is that rollum is a fucking awesome drummer with loads of energy and power and skill....

For my normal "commentary on a setlist for a show that I didn't actually get to see," I have this to say:

Lots of songs that aren't exactly a given at a Features show...

Great to see Temporary Blues back in the set, I was missing it.
Action's been played at all of the most recent shows, which is a plus.
Bumblebee is a song that I think is such a gem live, I'm glad to see it in the set more regularly.
Psycho Killer... I'd never request it, but I look forward to one day getting to hear it.
And its great to see the new songs making their mark on the scene. I can't wait to hear Million Ways and Way Its Meant to Be...

and the beer getting sprayed all over me

speaking of beer, i would like to point out something that i noticed at the show. as the features were setting up their gear, a drunk girl at the front decided to open another guy's beer by hitting the top of it, which inadvertantly popped the top off of it. in the process the beer spews on the floor....on matt's pedals and cords. i could tell that matt was not a very happy man at that point....

Are you sure the top wasn't already off? I've seen that trick a million times (yes, exactly ONE MILLION), but usually the top is pretty secure when sealed. It's fun at a big party to pretend to toast with someone and hit directly on top of their bottle, it takes a couple seconds to spew, time enough to be long gone before they notice beer pouring on their feet. Man, what one really learns in college.

I was on a trip in Murfreesboro this past weekend to visit some friends of mine. I had never heard of any of those bands, but they took me to the show at Bingham's House and Wow! I was thoroughly impressed with all of the bands, especially the features.

After they played Circus (the opener), I had to turn to my friend to see where I could get a copy of their album. I am quite enamoured with them right now; it's been practically the only thing that I've listened to since Saturday.

I later found out that they play every once in a while in Lexington, KY, where I live... I will definitely be keeping an eye out for them and telling my friends to do the same.

Great job to the bands and thanks to bingham.. I had a great time!

What do you mean? Has someone made flyers or what? I don't care, but if someone wants to use a photo for promotional material it is fine by me, if you email me I wll send you the full sized, uncompressed file for higher quality reproduction, but only after it is cleared with the Features first. I will be happy to help this band whenever I can, they never hesitate to help me, my friends, and this town, so it is the least I could do.

richarddawson, I was wondering what kind of equipment you used to record the show. I always like to admire other people's rigs.

I use a normal Sony MiniDisc player/recorder and a Sony stereo microphone. The total cost was a little over $200 and it works exceptionally well (even in front of the stage, which is where I like to be). Much better than my trusty microcassette recorder...

yes, someone made giant flyers and placed them in strategic areas around town, as he hadn't seen any for this show. I thought it was a good idea, so I helped. The band wasn' t asked permission because it was a last minute idea, I don't think they will mind. The picture was posterized in photoshop to avoid (or enhance?) the resolution distortion problem. Keep an eye out for nearly life-sized pehlams.

Yes, MikeD and I did a bit of a last second mini (well, actually jumbo) flyering. I was out and about and suddenly thought, "There should be some giant posters for this giant show." So Mike designed a poster, that I think ended up being dope as hell. There are five 36" x 48" posters in the Nashville area - one on Elliston Place, one on West End, two near Belmont on Wedgewood, and one on the front of that abandoned Burger King next to SATCo. I just want this show to be packed, you know?

during the show i thought that the "special guest" knew all of the songs that he was playing with the band...however, listening to the recording, it's clear that he did not. it's quite humorous really.

it probably didn't help that he was set up right in front of you mr. dawson. it really does take away from an otherwise good recording.

(this isn't to say that he is a bad guitarist or anything...just that he didn't know the songs...)

richarddawson, I was wondering what kind of equipment you used to record the show. I always like to admire other people's rigs.

i got a mini-disc recorder and tried to record a band about a year ago with it and a computer mic. needless to say, the quality absolutely sucked!!! how much was the mic for it? is the quality really good? my car has a minidisc player in the dash and i'd kill to be able to listen to the features while i drive.

A good mic is essential for recording a show. At a bare minimum, you need something with its own power supply. Bass rolloff and stuff like that is nice, too... but not essential.

with all car models i've seen you can only use a minidisc or the radio. i just waited for a cd changer to go on sale and hooked it up from the trunk so i can listen to both now.

richarddawson, I was wondering what kind of equipment you used to record the show. I always like to admire other people's rigs.

My mic is a "Sony ECM-MS907". It is stereo and is ideally used with MiniDisc or DAT recorders. It cost about $100, but it was worth every penny! It works exceptionally well (almost too well in the case of Brian Carter's guitar at the Bingham's Apt. show). I highly recommend this product, which is readily purchased at Electronics Express.

Wow. I must say that a show in a strip club would be completely outrageous. Do you watch the band? Do you watch the strippers? Will there be any space between the two anyway? I guess if anyone can pull it off, the Lucky Guns can.

What I'd love to see would be an emo show in a strip club. Could the strippers still act sexy? Would they want to? Would they have to? Have you ever heard that song by the Bloodhound Gang, "A Lap Dance is So Much Better When the Stripper is Crying"? Or would the strippers just put their clothes back on and go home?
