so, discuss. are you an early or late beatles fan? i myself hold both beatles eras in high esteem and love magical mystery tour and abbey road. a hard day's night track for track is indeed a good one though. which brings another poll topic to mind . . . -------------------- thank you for being a friend. |

I love the Beatles. They're my favorite band of all time. I really do like all of their material, but the early albums, in my opinion, aren't as loaded with amazing songs as the middle and later ones are. A lot of those early songs just don't get in my soul like so many of the later ones do. My favorite album of theirs is the White Album. I consider it a bona fide masterpiece - one of those rare intersections of flawless songwriting and perfect production. And it's funny, since it seems (from interviews, the Anthology, etc) that the Beatles and George Martin consider it kind of weak, and say it should have been cut to a single disc. My Beatles Top 5: 1. the White Album 2. Revolver 3. Abbey Road 4. Magical Mystery Tour 5. Rubber Soul (Edited by jamiecarroll at 9:37 pm on Jul. 30, 2003) -------------------- Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me. |

My traditional answer has always been Abbey Road. It's got so many wonderful songs on it, and the medleys on side 2 are perfection. However, as time goes on I like side 1 less and less. "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," "Oh Darlin," and to a lesser exent "Octopus's Garden" just sceam "skip me please!" these days. So recently I have been leaning to Revolver. Not a bad song on that one, except maybe "Good Day Sunshine." Stupid cheesy Paul. -------------------- trn |

Stupid cheesy Paul. my favorite song from abbey road is you never give me your money. This is a very hard subject for me. I've gone through it a million times, but I usually end up with: 1. The White Album 2. Revolver It gets really fuzzy after this. 3. Abbey Road 4. Hard Day's Night 5. For Sale 6. Sgt. Pepper's 7. Rubber Soul 8. Magical Mystery Tour The above is stated very loosely and changes every time I think about it. I agree with Stalker that Please Please Me is a great album. I love it, and I went through a phase several years ago where that was all I listened to. I have had a phase for each Beatles album and one for almost every song, too. I think my favorite song of all time is probably "Eleanor Rigby"...or "Rocky Raccoon". They're both perfectly beautiful. At one time "I am the Walrus" was my favorite, then "Norweigan Wood", then "Hello Goodbye", then "Sexy Sadie", then "No Reply", then "Something", and so on and so on. The only Beatles song I cannot take is "Don't Pass Me By". I hear the first two seconds, and I cringe and push skip. I could go on forever. Being a new listener to the Beatles, (I never really liked them before I heard the I Am Sam soundtrack, pathetic, I know)... Revolver. Actually, it's really the only one to which I have listened. I bought Rubber Soul and can only remember liking at the most 5 songs. So, I guess I'll come back after hearing some of your picks and give a more informed opinion. I know you guys can't wait. |

people like to think that it's cool to bash paul just because he supposedly wrote only sappy songs, ummmmmm......i wouldnt call helter skelter (the obvious one) sappy ......paul is an amazing songwriter.......granted, he did write a few mediocre songs, but didnt john do this as well (he is responsible for the bar-none worst beatles song "what's the new mary jane") or what about george and the 17 year writing slump that he had after "all things must pass".... top 8 beatles albums: 1. revolver 2. white album 3. abbey road 4. rubber soul 5. beatles for sale 6. a hard day's night 7. magical mystery tour 8. sgt pepper |

revolver magical mystery tour abbey road these have always had a profound effect on me. i never understood something. when i was in the 5th grade i started listening to the beatles mostly because i saw paul mccartney on the new world tour back in 1993. i was told the beatles sucked and was made fun of and blah blah blah until around 8th those people began to come around and all of sudden everyone is the biggest beatle fan in the world! a real i told you so. especially to a few my good freinds who were rabid green day fans back then. the beatles are one of those bands that everyone can and will learn to like. -------------------- We have about 1500 songs.....all of them good! |

"the long and winding road" is the only beatles song to hit number 1 starting with the word "the" i learned that from trivial pursuit a few years ago. I know I'm in the minority, but I love Let It Be. The movie helps to make it better. There's something about the cold wintry-ness of all the songs and the setting.

I've only seen it once, but if I ever see the GetBack journals (8 CDs) from that session, Token will have to hold me back to keep me from shelling out the 200+ to buy it. The Get Back bootleg I had was average. The anthology stuff is really really good.
