So Rachel's big news got me thinking about this. What was your first car? Mine was a navy blue 1984 Chevy Caprice. My sisters were embarassed to ride in it. It was really just a pale imitation of what I really wanted, though, which was a 1970s Cadillac Eldorado. Anyway, the Caprice was named Cathy and had a crown air freshener in the back and a fuzzy steering wheel. I had some good times in that car. It looked kind of like this one: -------------------- Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me. |

mine was a 1971 chevy impala. it had a history of stalling when i was in the middle of an intersection. it kinda looked like this, but it was more blue-ish and the top was a different color than the body.

I inherited my parent's 78 Caprice... Black WITH the landau top!!!! That's the big ass boat I drove until I saved up enough money to buy a motorcycle, then my parents freaked out at that possibility and gave me an extra $200 so I could get this 71 MGB that caught my eye. So technically, my first car of all my own was the MGB. I loved that car. Some ass T-Boned me when I was in college. I was lucky I wasn't killed, because that thing didn't have any seatbelts in it (optional equipment until 73, and grandfathered in to the seatbelt law). The MG was really finicky. I was wrenching on it all the time. I had to wear a snow suit in the winter becuase the heat would only work when it was about 50 and above, no a\c, and a stiff breeze from a semi in the next lane would come close to blowing me off the road. I twas awesome. A big congrats Rachel. -------------------- Peace Frog Productions |

My first car is actually the car I still have (a 1996 Honda Civic EX). Mom bought it when I was 16 and living in NC. Since I hadn't gone through all of the steps of driver's education, I couldn't drive it yet. I had to look at it in my driveway for like 4 months. Mine has 4 doors. That is the only difference. And, I've driven a lot in my car, and I've had some good memories involving it as well. So, I definitely won't want to let it go. It's actually paid off in August and gets signed over to me. I don't plan on trading it in at all. |

My first car is also my current car. My uncle gave me his '89 Honda Accord Sei when he found out he had brain cancer and couldn't drive anymore. It is really an honor to drive it. He took great care of it-it still doesn't have 100,000 miles on it so I am driving a middle-aged honda. It is a manual and I didn't learn how to drive it for about 6 months because I was never home to learn. It was sad to come home from college and see my car sitting in the driveway so I made my friend drive it up to summer school and I forced myself to learn how to drive it. Good times were had peeling out and stalling at 4-way stops on campus. I have to go get it fixed though because a rodent chewed up some wires. ARrggghhh. -------------------- "negro frijoles!!" ~m.m. |

I had a 1981 Datsun (now Nissan) Pickup truck. It was powder blue and had the extended cab. I bought it a few months before I turned 16 before I could actually drive it. I paid the $1250 with my own money I had earned from slaving away at a yacht club kitchen for the summer I was 14 and at an environmental science lab when I was 15. I agreed to let my brother drive it for the first 6 months if he agreed to make some necessary repairs on it. I took good care of it and got some mileage out of it until I ended up giving to my sister-in-law 3 years later. It broke down a few months later -------------------- Daigle is all we need to make the night complete |

First car was an Oldsmobile Eighty Eight. My grandmother gave it to me and I never actually paid attention to the year. I ran that thing into the ground in about 8 months. Never really got much of a chance to get attached to it or anything.

![]() My first car (permit-era) was my grandfather's 1980 Cadillac Coude De Ville. It was pale yellow, with cream leather interior. It was huge. and awesome. Unfortunately, it was not reliable at all, so I then started driving... ![]() my grandmother's 1986 Cadillac Coupe Deville. It was white, with white leather seating, a burgandy dash, and burgandy carpet. It didn't quite outdo the pimpness of the '80, but it came close. It wasn't very reliable either, so a few months after I turned 16, I got the white '99 Chevy truck that I still drive. I need to tell Powder P about this conversation... |

My first car was a '92 or '93 black Toyota Camry. It was named Elsa (after a line in the Oasis song "Supersonic") and featured automatic seatbelts that were nicknamed Rape Me Seatbelts by all of my passengers due to their force. It was lost to me when I failed to accurately judge just how far away a speeding van was when leaving my school dressed as Nightcrawler of the X-Men. I guess this is it. I only had it for 3 months and I just remember that it was black and very very average looking.

I had an '82 Mercedes 240D (for DIESEL), standard shift (4 gears), totally awesome, hand-me-down from my sister that has been subsequently handed down to 2 different cousins, 0 to 60 in about 4-5 minutes, odometer broke at 215,000 miles....4 years ago. I still miss it. I still love it. It still lives, despite my sister & I hydroplaning it into the woods while listening to "Standing on a Beach".

My first car, the car I have now, is a 1995 red Dodge Neon, with over 160,000 miles on her to date. I picked the little beauty up (used) the day of my Junior prom in 2001. She's got no radio/clock or air conditioning, and has run over a dog (he's fine), backed into countless light posts, rear-ended a very nice lady off of West End, lost power steering while driving home, has tail-lights that fill with rainwater, cigarette burns, been vomited in, had pieces of plastic hardware broken off, and scratched up by God knows what. The longest trip she's even taken is to Ohio, the most passengers she's ever carried was four, and has plenty of trunk space to sneak people into drive-in movies. Her name is Dodgy (because she is) and I love her.![]() That's my girl, minus the fancy black stripe..... -------------------- That's so NA. |

Mine was almost exactly like this but white: a 1996 Mitsubishi Galant. Some bizarre flash floods made a fatality of her last May. I never named her, but may she rest in peace. Her replacement is much better, though. This, in grey: (Edited by Token at 5:43 pm on Apr. 7, 2004) |

My first car was a 1959 Ford Fairlane... It was a huge boat with fins, plenty of rust, and a steering wheel that was about 3 feet across!![]() PS - Sexy Sadie: I have a 68 Mustang that I used to drive every day, but sadly now it sits in my mom's driveway. Very fun cars to drive! PPS - Ceeze: I love Datsun 280 Z's.. I'd totally drive one. -------------------- trn |

Ain't nothing wrong with any of that. I always wanted a Chevelle. There was a '66 black Dodge Charger for sale down the road from Powder P's house a few years ago. I still want that car so badly. It was badass. It had the matching black interior. So, so badass. It would give me a reason to wear 50's style black-frame sunglasses. ![]() (with black seats) If it were a '69, I would paint it to look like the General Lee. Rachel enjoy your new car while it's clean and not filled with extra clothes, trash, bottled water bottles and other things lol. I remember keeping my car clean and actually washing it on a regular basis. Lol I washed my car I think 3 times last year.. it was broken down at one point though. But just enjoy it. | ||

Now I just have to learn stick shift. I would reccomend that you just go to an abandoned parking lot some Saturday and hash it out. Don't get frustrated if you don't get it right away. I would also reccomend that you not even worry about the gas pedal at first. Just sit on level ground, put the car in 1st gear and practice letting the clutch out slowly until it "catches" and the car starts to move. It's all about getting a feel for exactly where that point is. ride the clutch indeed-that is how i figured it out. i have a bitch of a clutch, too. here in east tennessee we have more of a hill problem, but definitely practice hills before going out on the road. good luck! it is so fun once you learn and it becomes second nature. i will never go back to an automatic (if i can help it).

The car I just sold was the first and last automatic I'll ever regularly drive.

How sad. I didn't even think about mentioning my poor, sweet little horse as my first mode of transportation. I used to ride her to the grocery store for sodas from the drink machine. I got her 10 years ago and still have her. She is the coolest!

My first car, which I still own but no longer drive, was a '63 Buick Riviera. I got it when i was 15. I loved it from day one, and spent most of my money/time keeping it pimpadelic. The coolest things about it were the rear bucket seats, the AM only radio, and reverse was the last gear on the gear shifter. It looked similar to this:![]() It's currently under restoration and may return this summer. (Edited by paulfreaksmeout at 10:41 pm on Apr. 14, 2004) |
